Neil Canton gets “Carter”

Canton to produce next Stallone film

All of a sudden, it seems that Neil Canton is starting to pile his plate high with film projects.  The latest, according to In Hollywood and PK Baseline, is Warner Bros. remake of the 1971 thriller Get Carter.  The new film will star Sylvester Stallone as "Jack Carter", a small-time mobster who tries to uncover the truth in a violent underworld behind his younger brother's death, seeking revenge against his murderer.  Get Carter will shoot on location in Los Angeles beginning in September.  Canton is also the Executive Producer of the upcoming film Duets, which co-stars Huey Lewis in his biggest film role to date.  Canton also has a couple of other projects in development, so it seems that things won't be very quiet in his corner anymore for quite some time.

Zemeckis drops “Men”

In what seems an unusual move in recent months, Robert Zemeckis has actually dropped one of his many projects.  Zemeckis had been attached to the Warner Bros. comedy, Men, as the possible director.  However, In Hollywood reports that he is no longer attached to the project, and has been replaced by director Damon Santostefano.  One less project won't make a big dent in Bob Z's hectic slate, but considering the nearly 25 projects he's involved with, it's certainly understandable why he's allowed the director's chair to be passed along to someone else.

New leadership at Universal Pictures

It was announced Thursday by Universal that they had indeed promoted Stacey Snider and Brian Mulligan to co-chairmen of the motion picture division.  Snider will be primarily responsible for production of new films and their marketing & distribution domestically.  Mulligan will handle the business end of the company, such as legal affairs, human resources, finance, administrative operations, international operations, and the Home Video division.  Both will have authority to greenlight new projects, although COO Ron Meyer will still have final say over what goes before the cameras.  As we await further project development for BTTF4/5, these three individuals will be the primary "Powers That Be" whom we will be targeting for showing fan support of the two sequels in hopes that they do get greenlit for production.
