Hill Valley Courthouse undergoing facelift

Famous clocktower shedding bricks for upcoming shoot

I just found out from one of our friends over at Universal Studios Hollywood that our beloved clocktower is in the middle of a rennovation.  The fiberglass bricks are being stripped off presently for an upcoming film shoot, presumably for the upcoming sequel to The Nutty Professor, tentatively called The Klumps.  And surely, the facelift will also benefit the filming of BTTF4/5 sometime in the near future.  The clocktower was last seen in the video "Why Don't You Go Get a Job?" by The Offspring.  [A very special thanks to 'Mr. Fusion' for the information and photographs!]

Update on Trilogy CD from Varèse Sarabande

Our contact at Varèse Sarabande recently told me that "it looks like the new and improved anticipated release date is for sometime this fall", in response to my monthly inquiry to the release date for the long awaited CD Alan Silvestri: THE BACK TO THE FUTURE TRILOGY.  This thing seems to have been delayed almost as many times as the DVD, but it will certainly be worth the wait.  As a reminder as to what this collection is supposed to contain, here is the press release from their website:
Also Coming in 1999…

Alan Silvestri: THE BACK TO THE FUTURE TRILOGY

John Debney • Royal Scottish National Orchestra

Robert Zemeckis’ Back to the Future trilogy is one of the most successful series of films ever! From the very beginning (Romancing the Stone) through such heights as Forrest Gump, an integral member of team Zemeckis has been composer Alan Silvestri. Never has Alan been so important to a film’s success than he is here. Aside from perhaps Star Wars and Star Trek, no other film theme from this time has become such a popular, and instantly recognizable, embodiment of an entire motion picture. The Back to the Future trilogy (1985, 89 and 90) starred Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown. While both Back to the Future parts II and III received releases of their scores, this is the first time anything other than the main theme has been available from the film that launched the whole series! The heroic "Skateboard Chase", the climactic "Clocktower" sequence and many more favorites are here, as is a full suite from both Back to the Future Part II and the journey west in Part III! As a special bonus, also for the first time anywhere, is the music Alan composed for the Back to the Future ride at Universal Studios! All aboard for this exciting journey back… Back to the Future!!

Project updates
Robert Zemeckis ROBERT ZEMECKIS ON SMOKING, DRINKING AND DRUGGING IN THE 20TH CENTURY: IN PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS:  Showtime has finally added an official site for this documentary, which has some interesting details on the 120-minute special that airs sometime in September on the premium channel. Through interviews with historians and professionals in the drug treatment field interspersed with often humorous film clips set to a lively soundtrack, filmmaker Robert Zemeckis delves into the history of America's relationship with mind-altering substances over the past 100 years.

THE LIST:  Variety reported Tuesday that actress Sandra Bullock is close to signing on to star in and produce The List.  However, after a close comparison, I quickly discovered that this is not the upcoming Robert Zemeckis produced film of the same name.   Bullock's List is a comedy set up at Warner Bros.  Zemeckis' List is a thriller set up at Universal.

HARDBALL:  Variety reports that Steven Spielberg may be interested in helming a baseball flick called Hardball, about an inner-city little league team from Chicago’s Cabrini Green housing complex. The project may become a Paramount/DreamWorks joint production with, believe it or not, Jim Carrey in the lead role.
