Dean Cundey's new directing gig
Famed Cinematographer now shooting trailers for Grinch
According to a scooper at Corona's Coming Attractions, Dean Cundey is busy directing the trailers for the upcoming Universal film How the Grinch Stole Christmas, starring Jim Carrey. This isn't Cundey's first turn at directing a film trailer for a movie that doesn't exist yet he also directed the famed Battlestar Galactica trailer for actor Richard Hatch, which has been recently shown at various conventions. Hatch put together the trailer to convince Universal to do another film, and brought Cundey on board to help him accomplish this task. The scooper had many nice things to say about Dean Cundey, who was on location in Ontario shooting a commercial for Export Development Canada. Apparently Ron Howard offered Cundey the Director of Photography job on Grinch, but he turned it down. Howard and Cundey last teamed on the
Universal blockbuster Apollo 13.
Backstreet to the Future
The multiplatinum act Backstreet Boys opened their U.S. Tour a few days ago in Washington D.C., and immediately it was apparent that they must be fans of Back to the Future. We had heard from some of our readers to check out their new video "Larger Than Life" (I still haven't seen it) because they ride what appears to be hoverboards at the beginning of the video. This special effect is duplicated during the opening song in concert, as they arrive on stage riding the hoverboards. Hope Universal's listening because just like Huey Lewis and ZZ Top, perhaps we've found the perfect modern tie-in band for the next sequel!
Review of Trilogy CD coming soon
I had hoped to have had a full review of the new Trilogy CD posted by now, however, the UPS man has driven past my door for three straight days because Varèse Sarabande did not ship us our shipment of CDs on time, nor have they delivered the promised review copy or press materials we've requested for months now. As soon as our stock is delivered, a full-length review of the CD and a comparison to previous collections will be posted.
Project updates
WHAT LIES BENEATH:
According to Upcoming Movies, the release date for this highly anticipated film directed by Robert Zemeckis has been pushed back a few weeks for release. The new release date is set for July 21, 1999. Filming continues in Vermont.
