CAR WARS:  Actor Martin Lawrence will star in this remake of the Robert Zemeckis & Bob Gale 1980 comedy Used Cars, which is in development at Warner Bros. [Courtesy of 4FilmMakers.com]

HAPPY BIRTHDAY:  Christopher Lloyd stars in this adaptation of Keith Laumer's short story about Hannah, a gifted student with a golden future. When she's thrown out of school just days before graduation, she suddenly finds herself with no future at all.  Set in a futuristic world populated by crazies and insects, the story charts one woman's struggle against a chaotic system which nobody seems to understand - least of all those who created it.  Scheduled to air on Showtime during the 2000-01 season, the film will be telecast as a presentation of the channel's "Directed by" series. HENDRIX:  This Showtime movie was recently renamed (shortened from the lengthy A Room Full of Mirrors — The Jimi Hendrix Story), not too long after filming wrapped on April 28.  The film, which stars Billy Zane as Hendrix' manager Michael Jeffrey, is slated to air on the channel sometime in September. HOWARD HUGHES: HIS WOMEN AND HIS MOVIES:  Billy Zane narrates this documentary about Howard Hughes, focusing on his career and relationships in Hollywood.  The special airs June 27 on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). [Courtesy of Baseline]

MACABRE:  Robert Zemeckis will direct & produce this horror/thriller under his Dark Castle Entertainment banner, presumably as soon as the recently announced 13 Ghosts wraps filming later this summer. Macabre is a remake of the 1958 original about a man who's daughter is kidnapped and buried alive, and he only has a few hours to rescue her. [Courtesy of Variety]

SPIN CITY:  As we all prepare to say farewell to Michael J. Fox next Wednesday, May 24 on the hour-long season finale, MSNBC will treat fans to plenty of Spin City coverage before the show.  At 12:00 PM noon, they will air the "TIme and Again" special they've aired in the past occasionally since Michael first announced that he had Parkinson's Disease.  At 8:00 PM EST, MSNBC's primetime magazine show "Special Edition" will be devoting an entire hour to the series to get fans in the spirit for Fox's final episode.  The show will feature interviews with Alan Ruck ("Stuart") and, get this, Christopher Lloyd!  Also featured are thoughts from other fellow cast members, and a look back at Michael's life & accomplishments.  The show will test viewers' knowledge of the Spin City cast, and will reveal TV Guide's list of the "Top Ten Stars Who Left On Top".  [Thanks to FiloFox for forwarding the announcement from MSNBC]

THEM!:  What's this?!  Bob Gale and Neil Canton will once again reteam to produce this sci-fi tale of the ultimate battle between humans and giant ants set in Los Angeles. [Courtesy of 4FilmMakers.com]

THE TICK:  Fox announced their Fall television schedule, and it appears that this series will be brought in as a mid-season replacement.  As you may recall, Christopher Lloyd appears in the pilot episode as "Mr. Fishladder", Arthur's boss.  No word yet as to whether Lloyd will appear in any of the other 13 episodes Fox has initially ordered. THE TULSA LYNCHING OF 1921: A HIDDEN STORY:  Mary Steenburgen is one of many Hollywood voices narrating this documentary for Cinemax which details the true story of racial violence in 1920s Oklahoma. After a black shoeshine boy was accused of assaulting a white female, an angry white mob left 300 blacks massacred, but only 30 people were reported dead.  The 77-minute documentary will be telecast as a presentation of the channel's "Cinemax Reel Life" series.
