Marc McClure talks BTTF2 cut scene, DVD

Marty's brother "Dave" gives insight into lost scene from BTTF2

As many of you know who may also be Superman fans, there was a huge convention this past weekend in Metropolis, Illinois for the 22nd Annual Superman Celebration.  Among the celebrity guest this year was noneother than Marc McClure, whom Superman fans know as "Jimmy Olsen" and Back to the Future fans know as "Dave McFly".

Several attendees have written in to tell us about their brief encounters over the weekend of meeting Mr. McClure in person, but reader Tom Soliva seems to have gotten some very interesting first-hand information when he got his chance to meet Marc:
Marc McClure and Michael J. Fox in a missing scene from Back to the Future Part II "In Metropolis, IL this past weekend, their yearly Superman celebration was held, and Marc McClure, who played Jimmy Olsen in the Christopher Reeve Superman Movies, was a guest.  Being just as big a fan of Back to the Future as Superman, I asked him about the films, as did others.  When someone asked him about Eric Stoltz, Marc added to the rumors that we have all heard about him being 'too serious' in the role by saying that he wanted everyone on the set to call him 'Marty' all the time.  I personally asked him about his scene in Part II, and he said that during the test screening, the audience did not understand the scene.  He said that Marty never calls his brother Dave by name, and is confused by his different appearance.  The filmmakers must have assumed that audiences would remember him from the first film, but that audience did not."

"Marc told me that he had seen Robert Zemeckis at a reunion for their film I Want to Hold Your Hand, and that he is working on the DVDs and wants to make Part II 'more violent and weirder'.  It sounded to me like the missing scenes will be added to a new version of the movie, and not separate."

From previous information we've been given, we're told that the BTTF2 DVD will indeed include many long-forgotten scenes, most of which have never been seen before.  And if the seemless branching option we've been told about is indeed included, viewers will be able to watch these scenes edited back into the films in their proper places.  As more information regarding the DVDs surface, rest assured that we'll be right on top of it.  Stay tuned... [Thanks to Tom Soliva for the scoop!]

Zemeckis' What Lies Beneath gets PG-13 rating

Dark Horizons (by way of UpcomingMovies.com) reports this morning that Robert Zemeckis' What Lies Beneath has earned a PG-13 rating from the MPAA.  Dark Horizons seems a bit surprised to learn that the film didn't get an R rating, due to the 'terror/violence, sensuality and brief language'  the film reportedly contains.  I'm not a bit surprised about the rating, given the major players involved with this film.  Afterall, Zemeckis and Ford are rarely ever associated with a film intense enough to receive a rating higher than PG-13.

There has been a lot of criticism to the trailer when it was released last month, mainly in that the majority of people believe it reveals way too much about the film.  An R rating would probably spell big trouble for the film, of which I've already been told by an insider on the film about many production troubles as it  was being made.  I'm told that the story is not up to the normal Zemeckis high standards, and that there is some major post-production work being done on the film right now to hopefully correct this.  With the film's release date just a mere 5½ weeks away, they've certainly kept things quiet on the marketing end of things.   Word has it though, that the film's plot has some major twists at the end, although so far no specifics have been leaked out.  Guess we'll all find out soon enough when the film opens July 21!
