Bob Gale's “Interstate 60” begins principle photography

Writer/Producer's feature film directorial debut reunites key BTTF players

Principle photography began September 18th on the independent road movie Interstate 60 in Toronto, Canada.  Bob Gale takes the director's chair the first time on a feature film since directing his Mr. Payback: An Interactive Movie in 1995.

Interstate 60 posterThe films stars James Marsden (X-Men) and Gary Oldman (Lost in Space, The Fifth Element), with an all-star supporting cast that includes Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Kurt Russell, Chris Cooper, Amy Smart, Amy Jo Johnson, and Ann-Margret.

The pairing of Fox & Lloyd together again in a feature film should bring out the BTTF fans in droves to the theaters, especially if they share some considerable screen time together and if there are any odes to their Back to the Future personas.  Details regarding their involvement in I-60 are sketchy at this time.

The last time the dynamic duo worked together was on the "Back to the Future IV — Judgement Day" episode of Spin City on February 23, 1999, which was the series' highest rated episode until Michael's departure from the series earlier this year on May 24, 2000.

Interstate 60 is an off-beat road movie about a young man whose confusion about the future course of his life leads him on a wild journey on a road that doesn't exist on any map. The odyssey puts him together with numerous off-the-wall characters in some very unusual towns.  Fox & Lloyd supposedly make cameos in the film as two of these off-the-wall characters.

Christopher Lloyd & Michael J. Fox reunited in 'Interstate 60'Another one of these characters is played by Kurt Russell (Escape from New York), whom starred in one of Bob Gale's earliest films two decades ago — 1980's Used Cars.

Gale, who also wrote the screenplay, describes the film as "a trip through life with the volume turned up to 20."  Among others, Gale will co-produce the film with long-time producing collaborator Neil Canton.  Gale & Canton last worked together on 1992's Trespass, executive producing with Robert Zemeckis.

Interstate 60 is scheduled to wrap principle photography on October 29.  Redeemable Features, the production company behind the $7 million film, will release the film in theaters sometime next year.  The official website will eventually reside at www.interstate-60.com, which has yet to be activated.  For now, additional details may be found on Redeemable Features' website.
