It's official! DVDs coming December 17 in Region 1
BTTF.com debuts updated DVD teaser trailer in Memphis
Confirming a rumored date reported earlier, BTTF.com announced the official date of the upcoming Back to the Future Trilogy via an updated teaser trailer this past weekend at the National DeLorean Car Show in Memphis, Tennessee.
Thanks to our friends at Universal Studios Home Video, we were given the exclusive opportunity to debut an updated version of the DVD teaser trailer we first debuted this past February in Orlando, which now reveals the official street date for the long-awaited domestic release of the Trilogy on DVD six months from today December 17, 2002!
The 30-second teaser (as found on Universal's official site) was identical in every way except for the final segment. Instead of stating "Coming Soon", the trailer announces "Coming December 17". We debuted the trailer in our booth Friday night, June 14 at the evening's festivities inside the Hollywood Casino in Tunica, Mississippi home to a BTTF DeLorean.
And as they did at our last show, Universal Home Video sent their "Street Team" to Tunica and Memphis for the weekend to pass out promotional magnets to take advantage of the captive audience at the show's main events Friday & Saturday as well as curious passer-bys beholding the incredible sight of 103 DeLorean automobiles gathered in one place. You really had to see it for yourself!
No other information about the DVDs were revealed at this gathering, but we suspect that a forthcoming formal announcement is now imminent.

Spielberg says no to BTTF4
According to ISN News: The Zocalo Today website, Steven Spielberg was quoted at last week's Saturn Awards ceremonies as saying that there will not be a fourth chapter to one of the franchises he produced.
Despite his widely-reported desire to bring back Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park for fourth outtings, apparently he has put the kabosh on any glimmer of hope fans had for a Back to the Future 4. "There'll never be another Back to the Future. There'll never be another E.T.. I won't do another Close Encounters," claims Spielberg. "The great thing about science fiction is it celebrates the imagination. Science fiction is great for originals. So hopefully I'll be producing a lot of original sci-fi for you to make up for the sequels I'm not making."
Sounds pretty definite, but let's wait and see what the worldwide sales of trilogy DVDs stirs up within Universal later this year to see whether these plans change any. [Thanks to 'Joe' at HLN Today for the link!]
Gale doubts end of USF's BTTF Ride anytime soon
Finally, in speaking with Writer/Producer Bob Gale about recent quotes made by Universal Studios Florida's president about the possibility of the park retrofitting or replacing Back to the Future...The Ride, he tells me that he doubts there will be any changes in the near future.
"I certainly doubt they'll be doing anything to change it for a while, because the DVD release is bound to re-invigorate interest in it," stated Gale.
Bob admitted though that rumors we had heard a couple of years back about talks of a story replacement were apparently true.
"I'd heard at one time they were considering doing a new ride-film for BTTF in other words, another trip with Doc Brown to some other time periods. However, I'm not in the loop with the tour."
Hopefully if any planned changes to ...The Ride are to occur, they will indeed result in a new storyline for Back to the Future and not from other Universal properties, rumored to include The Mummy or The Fast and the Furious. Stay tuned...
