FLORENCE, Ala. – Filmmakers and movie buffs are going back in time March 4-7 as the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival hosts a faithful working replica of the famous DeLorean time machine. The time machine, as seen in the Back to the Future trilogy, will be available to guests many times during the festival, including its appearance at the Shoals Theatre just prior to the 25th anniversary Back to the Future reunion, which begins at 7 p.m. March 5.stop

The reunion will include actors Lea Thompson, James Tolkan and Claudia Wells and screenwriter Bob Gale. Tickets are $17 each and are available at www.LindseyFilmFest.com or at the UNA bookstore.

The film festival will also include Michael Scheffe, construction supervisor for the DeLorean time machine used in the Back to the Future films. He will participate in a special-effects workshop March 5. Scheffe is also designer of the Knight Rider talking car K.I.T.T. and the flying taxi seen in Back to the Future II.

The BTTF.com DeLorean time machine coming to UNA was built by husband-and-wife team Oliver and Terry Holler, of Myrtle Beach, S.C. It was carefully built to match the original time machine seen in the Back to the Future trilogy, featuring the famous flux capacitor and functional circuit displays.

The exotic DeLorean automobile is a sports car manufactured by the DeLorean Motor Company from 1981 through 1983 in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland. It was the only model ever produced by the company. The unique car features gull-wing doors with a brushed stainless steel body. Today, about 7,000 DeLoreans are believed to still exist.

The car was a central character throughout the popular Back to the Future films, used by the character Dr. Emmett Brown. Brown’s rationale for choosing the DeLorean was stated in the first film: “The way I see it, if you’re gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?” In addition to elaborate enhancements for time travel, the iconic vehicle was later modified with flying capabilities and a Mr. Fusion, a fictional home-energy reactor from the year 2015, about the size of a coffee maker.

The Hollers’ time machine has been featured in national publications and music videos, won numerous awards and has even appeared with many of the creators and stars from the hit movie. The replica “star car” stays busy on the road, as the Hollers also travel the country with their DeLorean to raise funds and awareness for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival is partnering this year with BTTF.com and the Hollers to raise donations for the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Information on the Hollers and their car is available at ToTheFuture.org. More information about the car may be found at www.DeLoreanTimeMachine.com.

The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival is one of the few film festivals hosted by a university. The event was founded in 1998 in part by UNA alumnus and celebrated actor and entertainer George Lindsey. Lindsey’s own film career has included several important roles, including the character Goober Pyle on The Andy Griffith Show.

Back on December 28, the Spanish DVD site ZonaDVD published what they claimed to be an official sellsheet from Universal Studios Home Entertainment for a Blu-ray Disc release of the Back to the Future Trilogy. We quickly wrote it off as a hoax since we knew that the sources for the artwork came from previously published artwork on this site.stop

Today, the net is abuzz over The Digital Bits' report that the sellsheet is actually legit (to a degree). While we won't refute Bits' claim that the films will be released on Blu-ray this year (we can neither confirm nor deny at this time), there's no doubt in our mind that the sellsheet image and its contents are a complete hoax. While the image's creator is no doubt very clever and talented, considering the sources for the images, it just doesn't add up.

First of all, the box art for the collection is nothing more than the international territories reissue of the DVDs which we posted back on October 19:

The sellsheet itself was released a little over a hear ago by USHE to advertise the availability of the three films individually on DVD for the very first time domestically. We ran this ad on for quite some time, so the artwork should be very familiar to frequent visitors to this site:

Finally, the Jaws 19 image is simply a captured frame from the DVDs which can be found all over the internet through a simple Google images search for "Jaws 19":

So, while we can't comment on the validity of the report of a Blu-ray release in 2010 at this time, we're quite confident that this sellsheet did not originate from USHE nor any of its subcontractors, and is nothing more than a hoax created by a very talented Photoshop user.

BTTF.com has just learned from diecast manufacturer Sun Star that their line of 1:43 scale DeLorean time machines from Vitesse are coming back, and this time, with two brand new models!stop

Back around 2003/2004, the company issued three 1:43 scale DeLorean time machines from their Vitesse brand to compliment their extremely popular 1:18 scale line. The had plans to do the railroad edition from BTTF3 even going as far as issuing a small handful of samples, but later decided to not issue that car and soon afterwards, they ceased distribution of the Vitesse line.

Now in honor of the film series' 25th Anniversary, all three original cars are being reissued with some style in new packaging perfect for displaying, as well as the BTTF3 railroad version AND a brand new design: the BTTF2 DeLorean in flight mode! (wheels are stationary and do not move)

We're told to expect delivery towards the end of January 2010. Click on each photo to pre-order your complete set today!
INTRADA Announces: BACK TO THE FUTURE
Composed and Conducted by ALAN SILVESTRI
INTRADA Special Collection Volume 116

The 1985 Robert Zemeckis hit Back to the Future truly needs no introduction.stop Produced by Steven Spielberg, the film is an all around flawless production about a teenager (Michael J. Fox) inadvertently driven back in time 30 years and forced to help his parents meet in order to preserve his own future. The result is one of the most entertaining sci-fi adventures ever produced. One of the many elements that helped Back to the Future achieve this special status is the adventurous, exciting score by Alan Silvestri. And while the score was an integral part of the film's overall experience, it was relegated to only two tracks -- a mere sampling -- on the original soundtrack album released at the time of the film. The MCA Records release mainly focused on the vocals from the film, including the Huey Lewis and the News hits "Power of Love" and "Back in Time." But a few minutes of score was not quite enough to satisfy, and for years collectors of film music and fans of the movie pined for a complete score release. Now, almost 25 years later (and closing in on the same amount of time that Marty McFly traveled back in time to meet his teenage parents), Intrada presents the complete Alan Silvestri score to Back to the Future on this special 2-CD set.

The complete score as used in the final picture is included on the first CD and comprises material recorded mostly during the period from June 5th through 11th, 1985, including two original source cues heard briefly in the film and presented here in their entirety. The second CD offers a previously unheard listen into earlier May sessions and plays as a dynamic listening experience on its own, relying less on the main theme, but offering moments that are darker and more dramatic than the final film eventually required. A final, original source cue not used in the finished film can be heard for the first time, wrapping up the second disc. For this release, Intrada had access to all the original multi-track elements housed at Universal Studios, delivering a crisp and vibrant sound for this premiere release of one of the most requested unreleased scores.

While this is a limited edition release, we don't want anyone to miss out on this important album. For that reason, we have agreement that we can exceed the usual 3000 limit and do not need to indicate a specific amount on the packaging -- so there are more than enough to go around.

Available December 1, 2009 in BTTF.com's Time Travel Terminal!
