Blockbuster Hollywood Spectacular Parade NBC's 'Blockbuster Hollywood Christmas Spectacular' Celebrates the Season With Ultimate Hollywood Live Action Stunts and Performances
“Back to the Future” and “xXx” Add Danger, Suspense and Excitement to New Holiday Special

PR Newswire

Los Angeles — The Blockbuster Hollywood Christmas Spectacular begins a new NBC tradition with the broadcast of one of Southern California's longtime favorite events, The Blockbuster Hollywood Spectacular, A Holiday Tradition (formerly the Hollywood Christmas Parade).  The Blockbuster Hollywood Christmas Spectacular will feature a float and live action scene based on the Back to the Future trilogy DVD as well the ultimate Hollywood stunt based on Revolution Studio's action adventure hit xXx.

The Back to the Future trilogy DVD float, which features Doc Brown's laboratory, the Courthouse Clock Tower and the infamous, time traveling, tricked-out DeLorean, stops in the middle of Hollywood Boulevard while audiences see Doc Brown himself franticly trying to re-power the legendary DeLorean.  He pops in a CD and finds the solution is in the "Power of Love," as the Huey Lewis tune booms into the grandstands.  There is a blinding explosion of smoke and pyrotechnics and the DeLorean hits the street.  Doc leaps in, and just like the famous moment Marty McFly videotaped 17 years ago, he revs up the engine and peels off down the street.  Once the DeLorean hits 88 miles per hour, the car evaporates from view in a powerful explosion of fire, sparks and smoke!

On December 17, all three Back to the Future adventure-comedies will be available for the very first time on DVD.  It's a special boxed set from Universal Studios Home Video and it includes hours of great bonus materials including deleted scenes, outtakes, Back to the Future trivia, and interviews with Michael J. Fox, director Bob Zemeckis and many others!

The xXx stunt will reveal the talent, planning and preparation behind movie stunts like those found in xXx, (VHS and DVD to be released by Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment on December 31st.)  In what can only be described as the ultimate Hollywood stunt, audiences will witness stuntman Mikal Kartvedt leap off a 10 story building located on Hollywood Boulevard. He lands in an airbag with a muffled "thud!" as we hear the crowds on the street breathe a sigh of release.

Pat O'Brien (Access Hollywood), Brooke Burns, (Dog Eat Dog), Nancy O'Dell (Access Hollywood) and Joe Rogan (Fear Factor) host the brand-new broadcast of The Blockbuster Hollywood Christmas Spectacular, which airs on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002 from 7-8 p.m EST/PST.

Other performances include:

  • — Destiny's Child
  • — LeAnn Rimes
  • — David Copperfield
  • — Carrot Top
  • — Brian McKnight
  • — Scenes from Disney's Aladdin-A Musical Spectacular

Since 1929, the Hollywood Christmas Parade has been a time-honored holiday tradition for Southern California residents and more recently, for television viewers throughout the world.  The annual event is produced and staffed by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the second largest chamber of commerce in the City of Los Angeles with more than one thousand members.  Michel Papadaki, of Consolidated Film Industries serves as Parade Chairman for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.  Peter Schlesinger is the Producer.
